Last night I split two stores on one Magento Installation into two. It went pretty smoothly and only a couple of small bugs came up that were easy to fix (that’s pretty good for Magento). It involved copying the database and the files along with making small changes to them. The sites were down for less than an hour (most of that time waiting for copies of the database to be made).
